About Tanya Hollis

A communications specialist helping purpose-driven organisations communicate clearly and responsibly

From news reporter to communication specialist

Across journalism, public relations and marketing communications, I’ve spent 30 years helping organisations – including not-for-profits, social enterprises and purpose-driven businesses – communicate their work clearly and responsibly.

Over that time I’ve developed a comprehensive set of tools and insights to deliver effective, strategic communication.

I now share these skills and experiences through Tanya Hollis Writes.

Kind and careful content specialist

Accessibility, inclusion and ethics are at the heart of everything I do.

I support organisations that care deeply about how their communication affects people, especially when working with sensitive stories, diverse communities or complex social issues.

Whether it’s your annual report, social impact stories or online content, my job is to help you building trust and reflect your values.

I aim to use communication to build kindness, connection and positive change for your organisation and your audience.

A communication all-rounder to hit the ground running

While my core services focus on annual reports, senior freelance support and social impact storytelling, my background across journalism, PR and marketing means I can adapt quickly to the needs of your team.

Do you have a resource gap for an upcoming communications project?

Need temporary backfill for an existing role?

Just after an extra set of experienced hands during busy periods?

I’m here for it.

Strategic communication that brings the best tools for the job

Your project deserves more than a one-size-fits-all approach. I use my knowledge of journalism, PR and marketing communications to look beyond the obvious to find what each brief truly needs.

That might mean shaping an annual report, providing senior freelance support during a busy period, or helping share an impact story with care and clarity.

My job is to understand your goals, ask the right questions, assess the options and choose the best mix of tools and tactics to deliver meaningful results.

Thoughtful communication in a changing digital landscape

New digital tools such as AI search and generative tools make for exciting times in the world of communications.

I stay curious about these changes, learning how new technology can strengthen your message and extend its reach.

But technology works best when it supports thoughtful communication rather than replacing it.

The organisations I work with often deal with complex issues, community voices and sensitive stories. That work deserves care, accuracy and editorial judgement.

What this means for your organisation

My role is to combine practical digital awareness with experienced communication oversight.

If you’d like to learn more about the principles that guide my work – including search optimisation, accessible content and inclusive language – you can explore my How I Work page.

Working with Tanya Hollis Writes

Clients say working together feels like adding another experienced team member; someone who understands the pressures of deadlines, board expectations and limited resources.

They also often comment on my calm, considered approach, which is a definite asset when the pressure is high.

Who I work best with

While my skills are adaptable across sectors, my experience and specialisation make me an ideal choice for:

  • small not-for-profit communications teams
  • solo communications leads
  • organisations handling complex or sensitive stories
  • teams who value accessible and inclusive communication.

(Tanya’s) expert copy editing added consistency and clarity to our publication, while her deep understanding of inclusive language and narrative flow enhanced our messaging. Tanya works independently, anticipates needs and delivers high-quality content that requires minimal revision. With her professional yet friendly approach she was a valuable contributor within our team.

Based on the Surf Coast, servicing Australia

Based on the Surf Coast near Geelong, Victoria (Wadawurrung Country), I collaborate with organisations right across Australia. Whether you’re a local business or a national organisation, I have the toolkit for your next communications project.

Supporting local First Nations community projects

I donate each quarter to Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative. The co-operative provides culturally appropriate programs, support and services for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living on Wathaurong, Gulidjan and Gadubanud country – within the wider Geelong, Bellarine and Colac regions.
