Senior communications support for complex projects and reporting

The writing often isn’t the hardest part – it’s everything around it

Tanya is seated on a stool, smiling at camera. She wears black pants and a white shirt.

When you’re responsible for communications, the most challenging work is rarely the writing.

It’s deciding what matters, making sense of different perspectives and keeping things moving.

Choosing the best comms support depends on what you’re dealing with right now.

Different kinds of work need different kinds of support

Annual reports

The annual report is looming and you don’t want a repeat of last year

It might be a requirement, but it doesn’t have to feel flat or rushed.

With the right structure, your report can show your impact and be something you’re confident sharing.

Freelance support

You’ve got important work but it keeps getting pushed into next week.

Hiring a freelance writer shouldn’t mean rolling the dice.

You need someone who can step in, understand what’s needed and make the right calls early to keep the work on track.

What it’s like to work together

You don’t need to have everything figured out before we start.

Part of my role is helping shape the brief and work out what’s needed.

I’ll ask the right questions early, so the work progresses with fewer revisions and less back and forth.

You’re not just getting words on a page.

You’re getting a thinking partner who will sense-check the work, flag gaps and help you make the right calls.

Clear timelines, steady progress and communication that fits around your workload.

How I approach the work

Accessibility, inclusion and ethical storytelling are considered from the start, so the work is clear, respectful and easier to engage with.

I also consider how content is structured so it can be understood by both people and digital systems, including search and AI tools.

The aim is simple: communication that works in the real world, not just on the page.

Working with an experienced communications partner

You won’t need to over-explain or micromanage.

I bring more than 25 years’ experience across journalism, public relations and marketing communication, working with not-for-profits and purpose-led organisations.

That means I can step into complex work quickly, understand what’s needed and contribute without slowing things down.

The right support can make the work clearer, calmer and easier to manage.

What others say

Working with Tanya feels like you have another team member, not a contractor. She is enthusiastic about the work we do and provides great value for our limited budget to supplement our capacity and skills.

Lisa McLeod

Executive officer, Fletcher Jones Family Foundations

Tanya’s expert copy editing added consistency and clarity to our publication, while her deep understanding of inclusive language and narrative flow enhanced our messaging.

Erica Naughtin

Communications senior manager, genU

Projects like an annual report, which has input from so many areas of our organisation, can be time consuming and tedious to put together – Tanya is always one step ahead with a first draft that reads like a final.

Senior communication support FAQs

I’m not sure which type of support I need. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Most people come with a piece of work already in motion rather than a clear brief. We can start there and work out what will be most useful.

How quickly can you start?

It depends on what’s involved and what’s already in progress. The best approach is to get in touch early so we can plan around your timeline.

Will this create more work for me to manage?

It shouldn’t. My role is to reduce back and forth, not add to it. I’ll ask the right questions early so the work moves forward more smoothly.

Do I need everything prepared before we start?

No. Part of my role is helping shape the brief and identify what’s needed. You don’t need to have it all figured out first.

What happens if things change as we go?

That’s normal. I’m used to working in evolving environments and can adapt as needed while keeping the work on track.

Let’s start from where you are
